about

Al: the idea came about over a christmas drink, Neil would message me a word or phrase and i would darn a yarn from said words, this went on over the following months.....then shelved for a few years and here it is.

Neil:
Over a beer we hatched a plan. I would text Al with an overhead sentence such as “I don’t want to smell your feet”, or a scenario, like ‘waiting for a bus that you hope you’ve already missed’. Then, In a day or two, a fully formed recorded spoken word poem would arrive in my inbox.

Piano, guitar or violin melodies were found that could work with the words, either punctuating the narratives or leaving spaces to help set scenes. These were sometimes layered with other instruments, or stripped back and cut up to reveal different moods. Our friend Terry added Trombone to a section of a track, adding a welcome dynamic arc, and our friend Rob sent over a clarinet melody with became the basis of the two tracks, which form opposing sides of a domestic argument.

Woof Woof is the result of these 7 collaborations.
